Do you cry after knowledge?
Do you call out for understanding?
What is your desire to know the Lord, like?
How earnestly do you want to know God's will?
What does your studying of God consist of?
How desperately do you want to know more of God?
When we want a skill we don't have - we make the effort to learn all we can of it, don't we? I wanted to learn to crochet so I sought the means to learn this skill. I wanted to learn to decorate a cake, I sought that means. Often if we want to learn something we figure out down the line that we don't have the necessary talent to hone the skill, so we do the best we are able. Some things we try and try to learn but just don't seem able to retain the knowledge. Other things we learn but after not using the knowledge we lose what we learned. The knowledge of God must become part of our lives in all ways. Every day God's will must be our desire. To know God, to be known of Him, we must keep a constant knowledge of God in our lives. We must grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord.
2Pe_3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
'Excerpt EJ Waggoner-
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." Ps. 1:1, 2.
"My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord giveth wisdom; out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding." Prov. 2:1-6.
Here we have the secret of the understanding of the Bible: study and meditation, coupled with an earnest desire to know the will of God in order to do it.
"If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine." John 7:17.
Repetition_review_is one of the prime essentials to knowledge of the Bible.
Not that any amount of study will compensate for lack of the Holy Spirit's guidance, but that the Holy Spirit witnesses through the word.'
