The foolish and the wise.
Mat 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
Mat 25:2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
Mat 25:3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
Mat 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
Mat 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
Mat 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
Mat 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
Mat 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Mat 25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
Mat 25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Mat 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Kingdom of heaven- LIKE-
Ten virgins, ten maidens, which took their lamps.
You use lamps for light. These ten maidens were using their lamps as they went to meet the Bridegroom. It was night, the darkness all around them and yet they had a source of light that would enable them to meet the Bridegroom.
Five of those maidens were wise, the other five were foolish.
The five foolish maidens were foolish because they took their burning lamps but made NO provision for extra oil should their wait be a long one. They ASSUMED they had enough oil for what they needed. They ASSUMED their light would NOT go out, that the Bridegroom would arrive long before that happened. They made the wrong assumption. They came along with the wise maidens, they went together both believing they had enough light to last them, only the wise ones brought extra because they were not presumptuous, they did not believe that they could predict how long it would take the Bridegroom to arrive. They did not presume to have of their own accord anything it would take to be prepared for the Bridegroom. Rather than rely upon the meager portion of oil in the lamp they wanted to be sure they had more and hoped it would be enough.
They ALL slumbered and slept. All the maidens, those with the oil-filled lamps and those with oil-filled lamps AND the extra oil, all of them slept.
The Bridegroom was a promise to come, a sure promise, they KNEW the Bridegroom was on His way. They were so sure they went to meet Him. They were so sure, they slept while waiting rather than turn back. They never stopped believing that the Bridegroom was on His way, they all believed. But they slept.
You know who also slept? Jesus' Apostles slept while they were waiting. Remember this--
Mat 26:38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
Mat 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
Mat 26:40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
Mat 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Mat 26:42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
Mat 26:43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
Mat 26:44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
Mat 26:45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
They slept as their Savior suffered!
They slept after their Savior asked them to stay awake with Him, to watch with Him!
Face to face with their Savior and His request and they fell asleep.
In this parable the Savior gives us - as those who claim to be His are waiting for the Savior, waiting for the Bridegroom- He tells us all who are waiting for Him sleep. Those who have all the truth, those who solely trust in the Savior, those who are filled with the Holy Spirit will be those with the extra oil. Those who don't have all the truth, those who do not trust solely in their Savior, those who are not filled with the Holy Spirit, do not have the extra oil for their lamps.
We are weak human flesh, bound to our weakness. We have to acknowledge our weakness and while we acknowledge it we have to accept HIS strength. He is all, we are nothing without Him, nothing. We sleep when we should be waiting, we sleep when we should be watching, we sleep and yet even though we are weak in the flesh and we succumb to sleeping, we must only do so with the surety of our Savior in our hearts! We must have the extra oil with our lamps so that when the Bridegroom comes we can fill those lamps and go in to meet Him!

They went him to the marriage and the door was shut.
Remember the study the other night, the kingdom of heaven -shut?
The door to heaven does shut and is shut to people, and it won't be to just those who are obviously not Christ's. There are plenty of those- plenty of people who do not believe in Jesus Christ our Savior. There are those who don't believe in God at all. There are those who only believe in God on their own terms with their own false religions, their false beliefs. There are many who believe but not the truth as Christ reveals it to us. They pick what they want to believe and shun the rest. The Lord is truly going to say to them that He doesn't know them. They will think they DO know Him, but He won't know them!
We must WATCH, Jesus tells us to WATCH.
We have to actively watch, actively seek to know Christ in all ways, and for Him to know us! He must know us! He must be a part of us- Christ in us, our hope!
We don't know the day nor the hour when Christ will return, but we must forever watch until that day.
By the grace of God may we be ready, may we have oil in our lamps! We want the kingdom of heaven open to us, not shut. Please Lord, know us so that we may be invited into Your Kingdom when You return! We would be YOURS, please, Lord, we would be YOURS.
All by YOUR GRACE, YOUR MERCY, YOUR LOVE FOREVER!
