Act 7:2 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,
Act 7:3 And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.
Act 7:4 Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.
Act 7:5 And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.
Abraham did not have land that was his, yet God PROMISED him the land.
For many, many years of his life, Abraham ONLY had the PROMISE of GOD to rely upon.
We groan and moan about the soon coming of our Lord and our intense desire to inherit the PROMISED land we are told will be ours - heaven and life eternal, immortal, everlasting. This moaning and groaning we do is our desperation for the PROMISE we've been given through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We, like Abraham, recognize a life with unfilled promise and long for that promise. We dedicate ourselves to God, as Abraham dedicated himself to God. We think we know this and that, such things that may or may not be God's will as we struggle through our lives with the promise before us, and so often the things we think are not God's plan are but things of our own devising as we try to work out our Christian walk in this foreign land called earth. We, like Abraham, falter in our journey but we must hold fast. We must seek forgiveness, we must journey on towards the promised inheritance, not ever give up the journey no matter the road blocks, the detours, the disasters that try to derail us. The PROMISE is REAL, just as real as it was for Abraham who waited, and waited, and waited till at last the Inheritance for him and his PROMISED SEED became a reality in God's TIME, when in truth Abraham had given up all his devising and settled into the knowledge that it would be by GOD'S power alone He would receive the promise and not through anything he would do himself.
Holdfast in FAITH. Holdfast in BELIEF in JESUS CHRIST. The PROMISE WILL BE REALIZED IN GOD'S TIME and in our lives!
